Fiscal / Monetary Policy
Our staff has considerable experience in conducting fiscal and economic policy analysis, including modeling fiscal income statements and balance sheets, forecasting fiscal positions and examining the impact of changes in government expenditures and tax policies on the economy and the government’s fiscal position.
- For the Toronto Board of Trade we developed estimates of the City of Toronto’s net fiscal contribution to the federal and provincial governments’ financial positions over the last quarter century (2005).
- For the Canadian Department of Finance we produce a fiscal forecast that is used for planning purposes and released in the department’s Fall Economic and Fiscal Update (2003-present).
- We are a consultant to the Ontario Government’s Ministry of Finance regarding the use and development of their Ontario macroeconomic model for forecasting and policy analysis (ongoing).
- For the Institute for Competitiveness and Prosperity we provided estimates of the burden on Ontario’s economy of the current federal fiscal framework and suggested policy options to reduce this burden (2005).
- For the Institute for Competitiveness and Prosperity we provided estimates of the economic impact of selected tax cuts on the Ontario economy (2004).
